Our Innovation Journey: Redefining Marine Propulsion
At ECO SURFACE DRIVES (ESD), innovation drives our mission. Founded in 2016 by Mohd Azman and Yanti Kristina, we are the licensed manufacturer of next-generation marine propulsion systems, dedicated to reshaping high-speed vessel performance with efficiency and sustainability.
Our roots trace back to 2009, where we embraced Industry 4.0 tools—3D CAD, CFD simulations, robotics testing, and rapid prototyping—to develop and refine prototype boats. Each setback fueled improvements, leading us to a major breakthrough: reengineering outdated gasoline stern drives and outboards using advanced common-rail diesel technology.
This innovation, known as the Noble Invention Formula, earned patents submission certificate in 2014 and became the foundation of our patented ESD stern drives. Rigorously tested and widely adopted, our drives now power vessels across Thailand, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye.
To meet rising demand, we established a licensed manufacturing facility in Batu Pahat (2018), a sales office in Langkawi (2019), and a local factory in Technology Park Malaysia, Selangor (2020).
Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, our momentum accelerated. Market response confirmed a clear need for marine propulsion systems that offer fuel efficiency, durability, and environmental responsibility.
In August 2024, ESD marked another milestone by sponsoring F3000 powerboats at the prestigious Royal Pahang Powerboat Race. Piloted by former Formula One powerboat racer John Kaine of Auckland, New Zealand, our ESD-powered vessel clinched 1st Place in the Drag Race Category, a testament to the performance, reliability, and engineering excellence of our stern drives on a world-class stage.
